I’m officially almost done with my entire senior exhibit. I had my presentation on Wednesday and I thought it went well. I could have improved on being more prepared for the questions. In order to be all together with my senior exhibit, I need to write a reflective letter to put in the back of my scrapbook to show my writing skills and more clearly show what I learned and how going to the orphanage changed my life forever. I have to write this last journal entry and do my letter and I am done! It’s a great feeling, and a big relief. I can’t believe that all the work I have been doing for the past 18 months is finally done. It really hit me hard when I finished my presentation that I’m really going to college next year, and that my senior exhibit is finished and that I won’t be coming to high school at FA next year, but college at Sweet Briar. It’s really exciting but scary at the same time, but I know I’m ready for change. Mrs. Clark Evans, thank you so much again for being my mentor, I couldn’t have asked for a better one.

April 25, 2008

I had a senior exhibit meeting on Tuesday and Mrs. Clark Evans and I came up with a plan to have a rehearsal for me this coming Wednesday and to invite a few friends (since I didn’t get a chance to do one because I was sick the day of the rehearsal.) I still need to hear back from Jim, the guy who lives in Florida who I’m probably going to send my books down to. I am getting anxious about my presentation because everyone else has already started doing theirs. They say it’s not that bad, just a little nerve-racking but I’m ready to get it over with.  I need to work on my powerpoint presentation a little bit more and come up with an outline for what I’m going to talk about.

April 11, 2008

I haven’t really been doing anything too important with my senior exhibit. I meant to set up a meeting with my mentor this week but I wasn’t here Monday and I had a lot of work this week and I forgot. I will do it right when we get back from break. I have been working on making my power point better and more informative for the final presentation. Mrs. Clark Evans told me how to make my written document better and she said it was good but I should make a final letter to say how I feel about everything I did and how it made me feel when I did it. I have started that, but plan to finish soon. I have yet to get word back from my missionary leaders about that Jim Warren guy’s email address. I emailed them again yesterday and asked and am still waiting for a response.

March 28, 2008

I have been very sick this week and I wasn’t able to do my senior exhibit rehearsal. I finished my PowerPoint, it’s about 35 slides. I want to present it to Mrs. Clark Evans and see what she thinks of it since I didn’t get a chance to do a practice presentation. I am still waiting for an email back from Janice Brunson about the guy that lives in Miami and goes to Our Little Roses twice a month on his plane. I think that would be a great idea, I just need to get his email. Another option is to just send all the books down to the owner of the orphanage that lives in Palm Beach, her name is Linda and she is very nice. I could get her email address very easily. I wish I got to do my practice presentation, I feel like it would have made me better prepared.

March 14 , 2008

Yesterday we had a meeting for Honduras this year and I talked to the leaders about getting a cheap way to get the books down to where I need to get them. They said that I should send them to Miami because this guy lives down there named Jim and I met him in August in Honduras, and he flies in his private plane every other week and brings supplies to the orphanage. My leaders said for me to shoot him an email and ask him if I could do that. I also emailed the head of the orphanage and she said that I could send the books down to Florida to the orphanage owner that lives in the United States. I finished my invitations and they look really good. They look like a book and have all the information inside of them. I got all my books out of Mrs. Clark Evans classroom (finally) and they are all in my basement.. I got them out of her classroom on Monday and Tuesday, and have the bruises on my arms to prove it. My presentation is May 7th and my panel members are Mrs. Clark Evans, Ms. Jensen, Mr. Reed, and Mrs. Blashford, I have a gooooood panel! One of my orphans sent me an email yesterday and I really miss her. I'm thinking about printing off some of her emails and including them in my scrapbook.

March 7, 2008

I have been pretty busy with my senior exhibit. I finished my written document over winter break and I think it’s really cool. I made it a scrapbook and included pictures of me and the orphans. I did the scrapbook a day in the life, and then included additional pages for the special trips, what I learned, what I gained, and my application. I need to get my books out of Mrs. Clark Evans room ASAP, I haven’t yet because I have no way of getting them out. I guess I will ask Mr. Durso if I can put them in an empty room or something. I still have to find a cheaper way of getting the books to Honduras; I haven’t yet found a solution to my problem. I thought about taking them when I go down there, but then would my senior exhibit be completed? I guess I need to ask my mentor that question. I had my little in class presentation in senior exhibit the Thursday before we left for break and it went really well. I had a little print out that guided me throughout my talk but it went well.

Feb 15, 2008

These last 2 weeks have been very busy for me in senior exhibit. My book drive went REALLY well and I think I got over 300 books. The bad thing is that I have been researching shipping costs and stuff and they are all REALLY expensive the cheapest I found was $470, and I quite frankly don’t have that much money. Mrs. Clark Evans suggested to me that I ask around because someone around here has to be in the shipping company, or know someone in it. Until I find out if I can get a cheaper shipping cost I’m going to hold off on having a book drive at my church, because if I did I would have to pay even more than $470, which I don’t have. I have been working on my written document pretty much every weekend; it’s coming along pretty well. I’m glad I started early though, it’s not something I would be able to do over night. I plan to finish it over winter break.. hopefully. I need to think about invitations more, I don’t really have any creative ideas L I’m not good in that field.. being creative, that is. I have to plan something for my Senior Exhibit class presentation which is next Thursday. Mrs. Aldrow thought that Lydia and I would be the most prepared by then, and we are the first to go so I’m a little nervous about that. I have a feeling that everything from here on out is going to go VERRRY fast.

February 1, 2008

Well, my application of my Senior Exhibit is underway. My book drive looks likes it going really well. This weekend I have to go buy another bin because the one I currently have is overflowing. I emailed Mrs. Hansen about the ‘book ship’ and she said to just google it and I should come up with something, so I guess that’s what I will do. I have been slowly working on my written document, gathering pictures, and different things to put in my scrap book. We are already planning our trip to Our Little Roses for this year and it’s really exciting. I just can’t WAIT to see my little girls again. I wish there was an orphanage close to Fredericksburg that I could help out. I have started thinking about what I want to do for my invitations and I think I might make the invitation look like a book, or a photo album and have pictures of the girls in a photo album and then the invitation too. I'm not too sure yet, I'm not the most creative person on the block so I might have to get my creative sparks going before I come up with my final idea.

December 14, 2007

I had a meeting on Tuesday with Mrs. Clark Evans and it went really well. We filled out our third contract and we also discussed my written document and what exactly is going to go into it. We decided that it shouldn't just be a personal scrapbook about my experience in Honduras but a scrapbook of my experience in Honduras and what I did down there and the bookdrive, so I have to take pictures of my bookdrive and put them in the scrapbook too. We decided that it should be about showing people that we can help childeren in different parts of the world, not just in Fredericksburg. Over the past few weeks with helping with the Letters to Santa I realized that our school alone helps out a lot in the community with underprivelaged kids- but those aren't the only underprivelaged kids in the world, even though me way want to think they are. In Honduras they don't have schools to help them out with collecting food, and presents for Christmas so they need us to help them out. I think that's what I want one of my main messages to be during my whole senior exhibit process. To many it may seem like the girls in Honduras are fine because they have St. George's mission team go down for 2 weeks every summer with a ton of supplies but really thats not enough. I mean Fredericksburg Academy alone does Letters to Santa for the kids in the Fredericksburg area, and then we do Falcon Fest in the spring for the kids at Hope House and other underprivelaged kids in this area. That's just one school in our area helping out a group of kids. I don't think it's fair that the underprivelaged kids all around the world don't get the help that they deserve and my book drive is just one way to help them out and I wish I could help them out in other ways too.

December 7, 2007

So i fixed my powerpoint for the presentation at community meeting on Jan. 28, which is exciting. I totally forgot that I had a meeting set up with Mrs. Clark Evans on Wednesday so I am planning to set one up for sometime early next week. I have a definite start on my written document which is nice, and I plan to basically finish it during Christmas Break. I had to talk the other day in church about youth group, and before I did that I was so scared to go up infront of the whole church congegration and announce my book drive at the church, but after having to talk about youth group infront of everybody I realized that nobody is judging me at church, which is a nice thing to know. I really miss all the girls in Honduras, it's Christmas time and it's sad to think that those girls won't get half as many presents as we do. I sent down a few presents for the girl i sponsor, Maria Jose and this girl that I am very close to named Ana- who I pictured in my last journal. I am so grateful that I have had the oppurtunity to meet the girls in Honduras because they mean so much to me.
